Music Graphing Meme / Friday Random Ten

Hey, has anyone seen Cesar? He hasn’t been around lately.

Having taken my queue from this gem and taken up the challenge, I thought I would make up a couple of my own:

Let’s see: my Friday Random Ten - gonna spend the weekend painting and packing edition:

  1. Tori Amos - In the Springtime of His Voodoo

  2. The Lemonheads - Hate Your Friends
  3. Camper Van Beethoven - James River

  7. Machines of Loving Grace - Perfect Tan (Bikini Atoll)

The Similarity to Sunday Graph needs to measure the silence and grayness of each day. Otherwise, bravo, plus one. hilrious.

  2. Mighty Ponygirl Says:

    Ack! You’re right!

That’s why you should never meme before you’ve had your first cuppa tea. :D

  3. Duke Leto Says:

I can top that in eclecticness!

Music/Audible.com mixed freely in this weekend mix:

    1. Judy Collins - “Hey Nelly Nelly” (Shel Siverstein cover)
    2. Bruce Springsteen - “Radio Nowhere”
    3. Ennio Morricone - “The Trio” (Showdown music from “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”)
    4. Harold Lamb’s “Hannibal: One Man Against Rome”
    5. Sophocles’ “Oedipus Rex” as translated and directed by Nicholas Ruddle
    6. Bob Dylan - “Isis”
    7. The Beatles - “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”
    8. Paul Strathern’s “Sartre in 90 Minutes”
    9. Judy Collins - “Marat/Sade” (A medley of the Songs from the play of the same abbreviated name.)
    10. Richard Wagner - The “Magic Fire Motif” at the conclusion of “Die Walkure”, which is so much more beautiful then the better known “Flight of the Valkyries” from the beginning of Act III

At the risk of sounding Hitleresque, I do enjoy “Der Ring des Nibelungen”. If you want a gamer connection, Final Fantasy VII lifted a heap of its names, images and motifs from the Operas. And Brunnhilde is one of the great female leads and a classic woman scorned by the Feminist angle. (And traditionally not bound by the conventional standards of beauty)

Since the list’s only common thread is probably thought provoking lyrics, Here’s an original liberal poetic translation of Odin’s aria in #10:

    Loki, hear!
    Harken here!
As first I did find you,
    a voracious Fire,
    as then you once vanished,
    Lo, a random blaze; (There’s a Loge:The God::Lohe:Flame alliteration I tried to put in there. - DL)
as you and I once banded together,
    so I call you here!
    Arise, wonderous flame,
Firmly, surround for me the peak!

(Strikes the rock with the tip of Gunguir, the Runespear)

    Loki! Loki! Hie here!

(A beautiful leitmotif evokes Loki’s coming forth as flame, dancing in delight and surrounding the mountain peak where Brunnhilde is lying in magical sleep. Odin lays a further enchantment on the fire:)

    Whosoever Gunguir’s
    point does fear,
shall never pass through the fire!

Ahem. Nothing Phallic about that. The plot point is significant, since in the next Opera, Siegfried, who is frightfully inbred and was raised by an evil dwarf and is thus too stupid to understand the concept of fear, easily destroys Gunguir and walks through the fire to find Brunnhilde.

Since Siegfried is also too stupid to know what women are, he initially assumes that Brunnhilde is a dude and he needs to help remove her armor so she can breathe freely. Apparently, valkries go commando, since as soon he got the breastplate off he spotted certain anatomical features and shouted:

“This is no man!!!!! OHHHHH!!! So that’s what fear is…”

That’s the only laugh in the whole series though.

This rambling has been brought to you courtesy of my diseased mind. Thank You,

Haha, I’m glad that you threw my name out there, I’ve been taking a break from the Internet for a few weeks on the lead-up to midterms, and this week I’ve been in the U.S. with my mom and sister enjoying “study break” from university. I sent out my HP laptop (HPs are awful, don’t buy them) to get the CD/DVD driver repaired at last. When it’s fixed, let’s play some Civ IV, eh? I’ve caught up on some of the other threads, but I won’t bother replying to them all. :)

I’ve no music to offer this thread yet, but I’ll treat it as an Open Thread for my purposes. That is to say: I got to play Mass Effect (playing a male/spacer/war hero as the Vanguard class) and it is FUN. I like the combat, but I absolutely hate planet exploration with the Mako. At least the battle with the Geth when going after that asari doctor, Liana T’Sari, was a blast. Too bad I leave Sunday morning back to Canada, but the game is getting released on the PC May 5th.

I’ve also bought and completed Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, the fourth game of the series, and it’s quite fun. I haven’t warmed up to Cutman… err, Apollo, so much as Phoenix Wright, but for what it’s worth, it’s quite a fun little game. If you want I can give a feminist perspective later.

  5. TheBends Says:

Greetings and salutations fellow Mass Effectian. Ugh…… Did I just type that?

  6. Mighty Ponygirl Says:

    OK, one more.

I thought this on up at 4am. Don’t ask me what’s wrong with my brain, I honestly don’t know.

If you don’t get it, you need to see this. (Although it’s already been spoiled a little).

  7. VeriteBlesse Says:

The Matt Damon one needs to be on a t-shirt, seriously. Amazing.

  8. DSimon Says:

How about “while boyfriend is drinking Diet Snapples”? According to my surveys, that’s at at least 3%.

  9. Mighty Ponygirl Says:

That’s not so much of a location as an event. At least online scrabble assumes she’s in front of the computer while she’s fucking Matt Damon.

  10. DSimon Says:

Well, but then how does “While telling boyfriend you’re fucking Matt Damon” qualify as a location where she’s fucking Matt Damon? She just tells that directly to the camera. (Also, at that time, she didn’t actually appear to be fucking Matt Damon, but I’m going to chalk that up to clever editing and judicious use of a bluescreen.)

  11. Mighty Ponygirl Says:

    She’s on the phone!

  12. Lurker 2.0 Says:

You may already know this but Persona 3 FES (director’s cut version) is coming out in the US on April 22nd. Given how many hours I’ve put into that game (max round one social links…*shudders*), it’ll most likely be a good buy for some…

  13. Punning Pundit Says:

So… it seems I can’t hotlink that last chart? Pity…

  14. Mighty Ponygirl Says:

Yeah, thanks to 4chan/anonymous, I had to turn off hotlinking from this site. Sorry. :(

  15. Punning Pundit Says:

damn. Oh well. When bandwidth thieves steal bandwidth, we all lose…
