Mass Effect screenshots
So last night we had a friend over for a little Mortal Kombat and PiƱa Coladas (we actually cracked open coconuts and everything!), and he was complimenting the game on it’s “boob physics” (ew).
This morning, Angrymob points me to some Mass Effect screenshots (it’s coming out for the XBox 360), and it looks like Bioware is making something resembling an effort regarding sensible armor.

Notice how the woman on the right doesn’t have great, pendulous breasts, and her body armor actually covers her body. You may say “but it’s still a skin-tight jumpsuit” to which I reply:

…The men are required to wear them too! Makeup is toned down for the women, which is a plus. However, there are still a few women who require some sort of vacuum-seal to get into their armor:

But overall I’m giving this character design a thumbs-up. From the looks of it there’s a lot more equity in how the characters are presented than in most games, and I’ll be getting it when I get a 360.

It gets worse. The dude offscreen on the right in #2… the one who’s giving him the finger?
Jude Law.

Another good thing is that you can make Shepherd male or female. My biggest worry is that they’ve been selling it as “Jack Bauer in space”, but I can’t stand Jack Bauer and his methods. Apparently you can choose your attitude in the game though, so I’m hoping for more options than patriotic pistol-whipping.

At the movies yesterday I put a couple dollars into Ghost Squad. One feature was that at the beginning, you could change the POV character’s uniform and weapon.
No, there was no option for a female model. Le sigh. Mass Effect looks pretty tasty, though. I like that the woman’s waist isn’t narrower than her head. Now if I could just come up with the cash to get my gaming up to the current generation… Maybe my dad would get me a 360 for Christmas. :p
