You have found… a BLOG! Set it to use with Z.

Well, if the title of the blog doesn’t say it all, this first post should put any lingering questions to rest.

For a while, I felt sort of odd in the online community. As a feminist who liked playing videogames, I found myself suffering a lot of misogyny in gaming culture. Between the games that objectify women and the gamers who smack-talk one another with words like “pussy” and “fag,” it’s hard to find your way. Meanwhile, because I enjoy the experience of gaming, I found myself not talking about this side of myself much within my feminist communities, because I sort of imagined how the conversation would go:

“You’re a Gamer? Like, as in Video Games?”
“Among other things, yes.”
“Like, as in Grand Theft Auto?”
“Uh, well, that being a video game, I suppose, I can’t really say I play the game.”
“But you play video games like Grand Theft Auto…”
“I suppose so.”
“And you call yourself a feminist?

It took me a while to find another woman who was a feminist who was also a video game player. Recently, I found a whole bunch of them.

This blog isn’t going to substitute for the awesome feminist blogging or overcome the serious gaming sites out there, and I’m not going to try.

What I am going to try to do is create a safe haven for feminists to talk about games, gaming, and the culture at large. We can review games, post stories, react to news in the gaming community, and maybe chew the fat about stuff that goes on outside of our rec rooms. The discussion is not limited: Video games of all platforms are ready to be discussed. Pen and Paper RPGs and Board Games are also on the table (or stretched out on the living room floor, if you like). The competitive spirit that drives us to game is celebrated here.

Let the games begin.
